Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / barking at people and dogs while out

I have a Tibetan Terrier 9 months old and an English Toy Terrier 10 months old both are bitches. They both bark at people and dogs when we are out. This can be very embarrasing when people approach us to say hello to them. They just go crazy, they are not viscious in any way but only see another person and they start. Can anyone please give me some advise on this matter. Thankyou.

Hi

I don't have a solution, but I do have a dobe that does just the same. Will be interested to read any suggestions also.

If my dog sees a person or dog he will run circles round me and bark at the person or dog . If he is on lead he will also bark if he has to pass a male who is standing stationary and gets nervous when anyone is walking behind.

be sure initially that you arent giving them attention if they do this.....ignore them. If this hasnt worked a swift shot with water pistol may do the trick!

Hi karen
My 5 month old dobe barks at all and sundry when out as well...it's a fear ,as if anyone stops to talk she shuts up and backs away...
I'm just trying to socialize her with as many different people and dogs as possible and keeping fingers crossed..
She is fine off the lead and in a strange surroundings...

hope we succeeed in diminishing the problem
