We have a fifteen month old catrated male collie and have recently adopted a small x breed bitch that is three years old and hasnt yet been spayed. Both get on well together but the male on a number of occasions has tried to mount the bitch! What is the best way to deal with this? I realise the ideal solution is to have the bitch speyed but I want to give her time to settle in properly first. Could this be a sign that she is about to come in to season or is the male trying to show who is boss? Please help!

He is young, she is female, he is horny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! course he is going to mount her, especially if she will let him.
I have a 3 year old dog, he was neutered at 18 months. He can, and has, mounted, and TIED a bitch in heat, SINCE being neutered!!!!!! As they say, where there is a willy, there is a way!

I doubt very much that he is trying to boss her about, i would expect that in time, SHE wil become the boss, it is usually the bitch that wears the trousers!

Id get her spayed about 3 months after her next season.

i'm not sure who allows a neutered male to tie with a bitch???that is very disturbing........you need to admonish him no matter why he's doing it,think about her
