I have an 8 week puupy on beta puppy food i wfeed her four times a day, she poohs fine but drinks a lot. I read a post about a lady that changed the puppy's food to JWB (won't use this food) and they stopped drinking by half.
I was thinking of changing to Wafcol puppy. Not sure of what to do though

yes that was me! I changed to JWB, mainly because it gave the litter the runs, but once I changed I realised how much they were drinking too! My feeling is that even if their faeces are solid, they shouldn't be drinking excessivly & would strongly condsider changing food.

This is what i thought too, i will prolyy change her over to Wafcol puppy, don't like JWB as my older GSD lost a lot of weight in one month on it.

my 11 week old lab is on beta puppy and is thriving on it.no excess drinking either, it's whatever works for you and your dog, they're all different.:)

It depends on what you mean by excess drinking. They have to drink alot more than dogs on tinned food diets as the dry food does not contain the amount of water the tinned does.

My Skye has used Beta, now on Purina, and has always been fine. She drinks well due to having a dry food diet but has no problems at all.

Cheers

I wouldn't feed Beta personally as some dogs fed on it show a mineral defiency - zinc I think, I have read on here. Also my dogs wont eat eat Beta but happily eat the Omega range of foods which are about the same price.

my pupwas on pedigree advanced puppy food, which after i purchesed two 15 kilo bags ,was told this product was going off the market.
I bought beta puppy to mix in to change over but pup hated it.
Now pup is 5 months and have started to mix pup food with new pedigree (meaty on the inside)complete...
She loves this and so do my other dogs.

Hi, I when I got my pup home I fed beta which made her poor tummy really upset so changed to Warfcol with no problems and now feed Burns which is brilliant and has the added advantage of delivering to my house.

Hi I reared a litter on Beta puppy food, I switched they all had the runs changed over to Arden Grange and hey presto the motions are solid, certainly would not use Beta again

never had a single problem with it.then again i do add lots of raw meat to the pups diet to so maybe this helped

in my puppy class there is a beautiful golden retriever who is a bit of a nutter to put it mildly. he is (was) fed on beta puppy and his owner was advised to switch as it has such high protein and they thought this might be what was causing his over-activity ( i personally think it is jsut puppy excitement!). well you'll have to wait to my next class on monday to see if a change of diet's calmed him down!

My 9 week old puppy was fed on Beta when we got him so we have just kept him on it and he is doing great we mix it with Nature diet, but when I tried it in a litter of Newfoundlands they all ended up with jippy tummy,I just think different food suit different dogs. Some people can eat anything and are never ill, while other's have to be carefull what they eat, maybe it is the same with dogs

I have just raised two litters of 7 pups on JWB, they gained weight a lot better than on IAMS and didn't have upset tummies like when they were on Beta, so I'll stick to the reliable James Wellbeloved

i raised my litter of pups on jwb and raw meat, they thrived on it and developed quicker than a litter the same age that was on beta, but my bitch was raised on beta until i changed her to jwb, she now eats arden grange, our sprocker was also raised on beta but soon got bored of it when he came home he now eats arden grange

I raised 2 litters on Beta puppy. It suited about half of each litter, and not the other half. So if it suits, it's great. If it doesn't, then change.

She is eating it fine it's was just the excess water but with have since found out that our Older GSD has been drinking the puppy's water instead of her own ( Inca's water and food is on the floor, Ice has raised bowls so that she does not have to bend down).
I started mixing with Tuna now which she gulps down very well, she has got Salmon today. I am a great beliver in giving dogs fish, the oils do wonders for there coats.

I would like more info on Burns please for large breed puppy
- By westie lover [gb] Date 09.07.03 08:20 UTC
Info will be on their web site - go to www.google.com search engine and type in "Burns+dog food" and their site should pop up. Their mini bites are excellent for large breed puppies.
