I read a post a while ago, I can't find it now, about changing from puppy food to junior and then to adult food, and at what age most people make the change. My dobe is currently being fed Nutro large breed puppy food, and I have to say it suits her really well. I was just thinking about changing to junior, but Nutro don't do a junior feed, the next one is adult. At almost 5 months surely I must keep her on large breed puppy, but at what age should I make the change to the adult feed? She currently weighs 24 Kgs she is well covered but not fat and her coat is very glossy? Any ideas please?

I would be interested in this answer too.I have emailed and phoned Nutro to ask when it is best to change to adult food but as yet they have not got back to me.It says on their website that there is no need for junior food and to switch straight to adult food but gives no indication as to when.I have read a couple of threads on this subject but I don't seem to be any clearer when exactly to change. If Nutro gets back to me I will post it here,

I spoke to Nutro at Crufts about this, my pup was 6 months old at the time and I was worried about the high protein with a hyper breed. They said they didn't see a need for junior and suggested I mixed the adult with the puppy, which I quote "Is only what a junior food is anyway". It seemed sensible advice and I have done that, gradually increasing the adult as she got older, at 10 months she is now on three quarters adult to a quarter puppy and is doing fine.

Sounds logical Sandra, I guess for example 50% puppy food with a high protein content and 50% adult food with a lower protein would be somewhere in the middle of the two. So if the only difference between puppy and junior food is the protein content then that seems the thing to do. Think I'll look a little further into that. Taz is only 5 months, and I've just bought a big sack of puppy food today so perhaps next time I need some I'll get a puppy and an adult sack. Oooh more money:D

An interesting subject. My mini schnauzer is almost 6 months and is on Nutro Mini Puppy. I have been told by the supplier that it would be fine to leave her on this for much longer, but what is best? Should I start to mix with adult??

Thanks
Karen.

A bit confused here ! ( Not hard at the moment ! :) ) If they said there is no need for a junior food why did they suggest to feed half puppy and half adult ?? If there was no need why not just change over from puppy to adult ??

They meant there was no need to produce a junior food as you can just mix the puppy with adult. You have the same effect as other manufactures junior label.

Ah so there is a need for junior food but they don't produce one so you have to buy double the amount of food and mix it yourselves !! :)
