I am considering getting a Border Collie puppie, i have 2 children at primary school and there is always some-one home. We have a large garden and i like to go walking quite a lot, but my problem is that the more i read of this breed the more off- putting it becomes. It would appear to me that with this breed the temprement of the parents is crucial as to how the pups will turn out. I really do want a Border,so how can i be sure of getting the right pup, thanks for any help.

You are very sensible to worry. As a guide go for a show bred one, rather than working or farm bred which are usually more hyper and not so suited for a pet home. Show breeders will have had the parents hip scored and the parents and pups eye tested which is very important. I don't know where you live, but a good start is to visit a championship show and meet the breeders and see which dogs you like. Failing that contact the Border Collie Club who will let you know of any puppies from their members. http://bordercollieclub.com/
