Hi, I have a seven year old rescue Westie, Ive had her for four mounths now, over the last week she has started vomiting after her dinner, when she vomits it is solid and looks like faeces, she does tend to gulp her food down, could this be why? I make sure i exercise her at least two hours after her she has eaten. Also she seems to be hungry all the time lately, and is constantly following me in to the kitchen wanting food - although she isnt scrounging. She was wormed about three months ago, and i have checked her faeces and they are fine. She was spayed two weeks ago, could this be related?

Two things spring to mind. Yes, it could be that your dog is bolting her food too fast; the same thing happens with my dog if he is particularly keen on whatever food he has been given. Given half a chance he will just eat the meal again (if you get my drift...!)
Also, I know a couple of Westies who have taken to being sick after their meal and the problem was resolved by giving them four smaller meals a day rather than just one big one in the evening.
As regards the scrounging, well, you may find that she has spells of eating a lot and spells of eating very little - especially in the summer when it is hot. At the moment my dog is insatiable...
If she seems otherwise ok, and perfectly bright and happy in herself then I wouldn't worry unduly at this stage.

HI, I would take her to the vet straight away and get this checked out. She may be due a visit anyway to have her stitches out if thats hasn't already been done. If she was wormed 3 months ago she may well need worming again when her vomiting has been sorted out. A heavy worm burden can cause vomiting but if she has always been regularly wormed it shouldn't be the cause. You rarely see evidence of roundworms in faeces though you may see tapeworm segments if a dog has a tapeworm.

I have 2 westies, one of which had a similar problem. My vet advised chopping food up really small (almost mashed) and also halving the amount and feeding in 2 sittings allowing your dog time to pass the first meal through. It may be worth going to the vet anyway just to put your mind at rest if nothing else.

Thanks for your replies, since Sunday morning, I have been feeder her smaller portions, and touch wood she hasnt been sick since, so i think that was the problem.
Thanks again
Sarah
