Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Bones from the butchers

Dylan will be 15 weeks old tomorrow. His puppy teeth are beginning to fall out (there's a loose one at the front at the moment :) ). Would it be okay to give him a bone to chew on? If so, what would I ask for at the butchers - I have read on other posts that raw bones are better than those from the pet shops. Please explain without using any technical butcher terms, as I am a 'supermarket' shopper and can only remember ever having been in a butcher's shop once  :)

Thanks,

Sarah

Just ask for a marrow bone or a bone for the dog.
My butcher provides us with 10 massive bones every week for my lot, for only £2.50.

I have given my pups bones from 12 weeks.

Star loves marrow bones from the butchers. I get ones that as too big for her to move about so she stays in the same place. They can make a bit of a mess. Just ask the butcher for a marrow bone for your dog. We get ours free when I buy some food for us.

I got Taz her first marrow bone today. 10p from the butchers. It was so big she could hardly carry it, but she took it and legged it down the field to eat it. Dropping it several times on the way:D I brought it back up to the garden but she ran off with it again, not sure why. Anyway she is now in the garden trying like mad to get the marrow out of it. I sure has kept her out of trouble. Like eating toadstools, or digging up plants etc. etc.

Well, I got Dylan his first bone today as well. The butcher cut it into three pieces for me. I gave the smallest to Dylan and he loved it. It kept him quiet for ages!!! I got talking to the butcher whilst I was there and he owns two Golden Retrievers, so I've said that next time I will take Dylan with me. Seems like his prices are a bit steeper than the rest of yours. He charged me £1 for a large bone. I'm not really bothered about the price, though - compared to some of the toys and treats Dylan has, it's a bargain! :)
