Hi new to this site, but have read lots of messages with interest. I am collecting our new pup tomorrow and the seller has told me that the pup is on Beta Puppy food. Obviously, I will continue with this type for a start, but I have read so many messages about problems that they have encountered with Beta Puppy food. Any advice would be grately appreciated.

Hi

Personally, I'm not keen on Beta. What breed is your pup? Has the breeder given you a diet sheet... or is it just Beta puppy four times a day? How old will your pup be when you pick her up?

Chloe :)

Hi he will 10 weeks old, the breeder just said he is fed on Beta Puppy food, he is a lab retriever.

The problem I found with Beta is that my puppies developed a zinc deficiency The last pup I had which is GWP was fed on Skinners puppy food which was fine he is now ( at 10 months)on Royal canin you can gradually wean the pup onto a new food

Thanks for this info, how long should it take to GRADUALLY wean him onto something else?

My middle girl Lab was on Beta puppy when we got her and I weaned her off onto JWB over a period of about two weeks.

Sorry ! James Wellbeloved complete food. They do all the range from puppy , junior, light, senior and for sensitive tums.

It is a gluten free food. There are many good foods out there but find that this suits for two of my girls.

There are lots of lovely people on here that will give you good advice and also use the search function as this is also very useful as alot of different subjects will have been discussed before !

Still haven't decided on a name, thought I would leave that up to my 13yr old son and husband. Yes I have spent hours reading the messages this week and found it all very helpful

Hi Lucy

Just thought I'd update you. We collected our Lab and decided to call him Blue, one of the names my son had chosen and the owners had called him that too. I expected the normal problems on the first couple of days, whining for his brothers/sisters, not eating his food. But none of that, he has been absolutely brilliant and such a pleasure to have as part of our family we feel like we've had him forever and he so much wants to please us. He has learnt to sit and give his paw for his dinner and favourite toy. Have been weaning him off his Beta onto JWB and he seems okay with that. His house training has been going really well and not too many accidents. The only problem I do have with him is that he is fed 3 times a day and is not too keen on his midday meal, tends to just pick at it. Any advice would be great, I do take his bowl away after 20-30mins if he hasn't eaten it.

Hello there !

So glad things are going OK !

I would perhaps think it is the hot weather that is causing it. Maybe see how Blue goes as puppies often have a period of going off their food so I wouldn't worry ! Yes you are right in taking the bowl away ! :)
