Our family is being blessed with a new family member very soon!! He is a 10 week old Shih Tzu!! Having had 2 shih tzus previously, I cannot recall as to whether or not thier tails were curled up when they were puppies. The puppie that will be our new family member, currently has a tail that is straight. I would like to know if his tail will curl as he matures. Thank you for this information on the greatest breed of dog on the PLANET!!!

As I too own a curly tailed breed I would almost certainly say yes. My pups are born with de3ad straight tails, that by four weeks are pointing straight up, and by 8 weeks are pointing forward to theri ears. they then grqadually get tighter and tighter over the next few months, but might not reach their full tightness until the second half of their first year.

As in all things occasionally it is just possible theat you may end up with a poorly curled tail, just as some prick eared breeds ears fail to go up.

If Mum and other relatives have nice curly tails then your pups will probably be that way too.
