Can someone tell me the average size of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniiel. Would it be concidered to be a medium or small sized dog? Thanks.

Hi I breed Cavs and They are classified as a 'toy' Which rather answers your question: they are small. Should be around 18lbs

Until I had my 2 pups, and in 20 plus years of being owned by these dogs, I have never managed to have a cavalier that weighed the breed standard!
Going back to the 70's, lots of pet cavaliers were big. (Big built, with a cavalier piggy appetite to match!!)
My eldest Ruby, Cherry, who's 13, is twice the size of Poppy, a Ruby who's 16 months. If Cherry was 18lbs, I'd have had the RSPCA round accusing me of starvation!

Both my pups hopefully will be what they should be.....toy spaniels!

Thanks for your imput. \I know what you mean about difference in weight etc. I have a 6month old Ruby bitche who who weighs 11lbs and a Ruby dog only a couple of weeks older whois already about 16lbs. Very difficult ! Ipersonally don't like them too big as we have established they are 'toy spaniels' on th other hand they shouldn't be weedy should they?

Hi, when I had Cavaliers my girls weighed from 12 - 16 lbs, and our dog 18 lbs. They were the small, compact type (which I prefer)

Yes I like them small and compact too. Trouble is there is such a variation in type. I think this is a lot to do with careless , if not indiscriminate breeding owing to the popularity of the breed.

I had a Ruby bitch who weighed 22lbs and she was a slim chick, just VERY well muscled, she went for an hour walk twice a day and loved to play in the river and hunt creatures in the woods, as well as dig the mole tunnels in the garden (very annoying!! :D )
