Topic Dog Boards / General / Can I fit a Malamute?

I live in a 1 bedroom lower floor 4 in a block house with its own front door and garden.

We already have a male samoyed, would I be unrealistic to consider a female malamute as a companion?

i'd say so unfortunately :( only you can really decide though you know the layout of your home best.

Have you considered when the bitch comes into season and the Sammy's reaction to this. Your neighbours would certainly complain.

Having two very active breeds of dog would not be suitable in cramped surroundings as they get bored easily and damage to the home would be most certain. Also if you work and the dogs are left for long periods they would certainly react either vocally or take a shine to the wood work.

I would recommend that you meet breeders of Mal's and get an idea what the dogs are like and get the correct advice. Please do not purchase a Mal from the small ads as there are alleged outlets supplying puppies as pedigree when we know for a fact they are crosses (usually Mal x GSD or Husky x GSD).
