Can anyone explain how show awards work, ie what does it take for a dog to get a stud book no and what does it mean. How is Champion status gained and what is the importance of gaining three CC`s. I`m a little stumped and can`t seem to find any clear guidance on which bit comes first and what does it mean. Am I correct in presuming that puppy awards don`t count towards anything?

Yours confused

Hi Liz,
A dog needs to win 3 CCs (Challenge Certificates) under 3 different judges, to gain the title of Champion. The different breeds have varying numbers of pairs of CCs (one for Best Dog in Breed, and one for Best Bitch in Breed) allocated by the Kennel Club, and these are only awarded at Championship Shows.

A Stud Book number is given when a dog has won at a certain level, and means that it has lifetime qualification to Crufts, as does Champion status.

Puppy awards can count towards a Junior Warrant, but that's different again (and keeps changing, so I've lost track of what's needed)!

Hope this helps a little.
:)
