Hi,

My maiden 5 year old bitch whelped one stillborn puppy two months ago, she was usually on a four month between cycles. Our vets recommended to do a back to back in order to have a litter. She got an infection a few weeks ago, some discharge, she's been on antibiotics and now she's fine. When should I expect her to come into season again, she hasn't yet and is showing no signs? Do bitches always go into season like they never had a pregnancy?

Thank you for your help,

Justine

My girls go 8/9 months between seasons and after they have had pups they have a season 6 months later. So if you add the 6 months to the 9 weeks gestation that makes it roughly the same time.

A 5 year old maiden bitch is a bit old to have a first litter I believe. I had no end of problems with a Golden Retriever who I tried to breed. She ended up with pyometra (womb infection) and had to be spayed. Are you sure it's the best idea after one stillborn?
