Sorry, I realize I should have been more specific in my last posting (and not have used any American abbreviations.) I presently have a 4 yr. old spayed female dark brindle Cairn. She is what we call "pet quality" --that is she has MANY confirmation faults. But she has a HUGE personality. She does well in dog agility, with many titles to her name. I am thinking of getting another Cairn, and am curious about a point that is not clear from my readings. In the UK is non-solid white an acceptable color (that is white with dark mask &/or points.) White is not allowed in the US standard. Thanks, from beautiful western Massachusetts!

Sorry I realy don't know if white with black points or black mask is acceptable, you realy need to speak to someone who shows Cairn to clarifie the situation. I agree with you the standard is not that clear, can only tell you that I don't think I have seen a mainly white dog being shown. If you don't want to show then have the colour that pleases you.

Take a look on the breeders list attached to this board and if there are any Cairn breeders listed give them a telephone call and ask for their thoughts, most breeders will be only to pleased to give you their opinions, like most of us I supose. JH
