We were at Chadderton & District Show today and the judge did not turn up .
He was due to judge SBT, Westies , Border Terrier, Mancheter Terrier and Scottish Terrier .
In the end ( after much frantic running about by the steward ) a lady who had come to show her SBT ended up judging .
Is this normal and acceptable ?

Well it happened at the Melton Mowbray Open Show ;) The Boxer and AVNSC/AV Working Judge didn't show up either ..much running around produced a Judge who knew about Boxers  :)

Poor chap ..I wouldnt like to be in that position

Happened at a show I was out a couple of months ago - hound judge didnt turn up, and someone agreed to stand in - as long as someone else was allowed to show her dog (under a different judge) not sure how allowable that was!
bye

It happened in my breed at Crufts, the judge fell coming out of the judges lounge and someone who was there to show their dogs took over and did the judging. Trouble was she said if she had only know she would have got a new outfit and a hair do for the occasion.

If the judge does not show for what ever reason, they have to be replaced with whoever is available. I the original judge does not have a solid reason for missing the show they will be fined. You are under contract to judge and you have to judge unless you have very good reason not to.

it just happened to the sharpei at southern counties champ show--it was meant to be a judge from the usa---she couldnt do it and a lot turned up at the showground knowing nothing about having a replacement, we got albert white instead,

Hi Gwen
we are going to the Potteries in July if you can make it :)
We were hoping to get to Notts and Derby Champ show but I think it may be too far- have yet to decide ...
It would be lovely to meet another Staffy lover :)
