Hi all,
Murph has been raw/barf fed since we had him and went off his Oscars.
Recently we started giving him Oscars occassionally in the afternoons and he does enjoy it. However, we have noticed a change in his behaviour. He's digging more, started chewing the walls! and is generally a more 'harder to handle' pup.
He still has his raw meat in the mornings but I am wondering whether or not the higher protein in Oscars (30%) is sending him over the top. We are cutting it out again now but wondered if anyone had any ideas or thoughts?
He's a five and a half month old lab.

Does he just get the raw meat and the Oscars - or do you give him veggies, rice etc ?

Hi daisy,
He gets chicken carcasses, thighs, offal, fish, some veggies, eggs, yoghurt, and basically, most of the stuff that barf fed dogs get. He doesn't need the Oscars as such - it's just easier for me but I'm thinking that I'd rather he eat what I know what he's eating.

Probably just a normal boisterous puppy then ! Ours would chew the walls, skirting board, floor etc etc. She has calmed down a lot now - probably by the time that she got to about 10 months :) She has been fed only on raw since she was about 15 weeks and she was still very hyper. The only way to go is to cut out the Oscars (personally I like to have 'control' and so have only fed complete when we were on holiday and raw wasn't practical - although another time I'll use the NatureDiet or similar instead of complete) and then you'll know for sure :D
Puppies are fun aren't they - trying to keep one step ahead !

He sounds like a normal Lab pup to me but I would probably myself put him on a lower protein diet just to see.
If I remember rightly Oscar's have their own vet help and advice line give them a ring.

Thanks all for your advice. I've stopped the Oscar's for now. I remember commenting to the rep that the protein level was high and she said that it had to be for growing puppies! I'll stick to the raw diet - it's quality protein and he doesn't have such high levels.
