Hi, We're on day 60 and I'm feeling really sorry for my poor bitch in this heat!! Anyway, just a quick question really. I've been taking her temperature for the last 4 days and its between 37.3 and 37.7. How low should I be looking for, for the temperature drop pre whelping? Thanks for your help....getting nervous and excited now!!

Hi Katia
The temperature should drop to about 36.5(ish) which should indicate the onset of stage one of labour, the temperature normally stays at about this temperature for the majority of the time of stage one, an increase to normal 37.6/38 (ish) generally indicates the change from the preparation stage (restles/uncomfortable, heavy panting, nest making stage) to the contractions stage - pup about to be born. If the stage one goes on for over 24 hours call your vet for advice.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your litter :)
Regards Al

Thanks Al, Her temp has only dropped to 37 but she has been panting heavily for the last few hours. I'm not sure if this is it - I'll keep an eye on her just in case.
