Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Kidney failure in Westie

Hi

My Westie (11) has been really poorly since our Doberman died in March - he misses Max (7) soo much. Dougal's illnesses all only started after Max died. He has fluid round his heart etc which is being treated. He is also on Metcam for arthritis. It is now looking very likely that the vet is going to tell me his kidneys are failing. Could anyone tell me about the renal diet and wafcol? Also what treatment their beloved pets have had and how they are doing. I really don't want to put Dougal to sleep unless he is really uncomfortable and in pain - as going through this with max was horrendous as I'm sure most of you know. We have been really luck and never had much problem with illnesses until now. On the good news front we are getting a Doberman pup in a few weeks.
