Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Ataxia - need help
- By guest [us] Date 29.05.03 02:34 UTC
We woke up to find our beloved dog off balance. Rushed him to the vet, they kept him all day and diagnosed it as probably ataxia. Now we wre in the 2nd day and he walks in circles, disoriented, eats well when hand fed but it is scaring the heck out of us.

Does anyone have any comforting information? Evidently, there isn't much you can do other than wait.

Thank you very much for a reply

He could have an inner ear infection. The behaviour you describe is typical, if so they usually make a full recovery.
Good luck

We had it once with a kerry blue who had been nipped in the neck by another dog. This was a damage which, unfortunately he never did get out of, but I should think an ear infection is much more likely in your case.
