Hi ! I was wondering if anyone could give me some homeopathic tips on treating a Toy sized Chihuahua for what my Vet calls - Ogular/Ocular Mange. I'm not too sure on his pronnunciation. I have 6 chihuahua's, One Mum, and the 5 pups. They will be one year old come June. The other pups display no sign of having Mange. My little one's symptoms are this. The flesh around her eyes had become very puffy. She has dark 'bandit' eyes anyway. So this was hard for me to catch right away. She began displaying what I thought of as "small dog" nerves....the itching and rubbing of eyes...licking under her right arm pit. I began to pay close attention to her eyes when she began rubbing them HARD - driving her eyes across our Berber carpet - sometimes peeling off the top most of her skin around her eye. Took her to the Vet - who said he was afraid it was mange did a scrape, but she would ONLY let him scrape her ears, which DID look a LITTLE red and crusty - but her brother's and sisters habitually lick each others ears - and they REALLY carry on with her... so I suspect MORE that this is more due to the saliva from bro's and sis's.....any who, The scrapings he did off her ears came back completly negative for the two mites, but but he still glumly predicted how contagious this is - and that ALL the dogs would most likely get it. He dipped her in something called Paramite - which smelled like a petroleum product to me ....and said she would need possibly 6 more treatments. Tho only so far - her eyes are affected. The one dipp seemed to dry up the wet puffyness of her skin - I've not taken her back for that second dipp - it's been about 4 weeks.
But I've noticed that since I've begun letting them sun themselves for quite a long time in the morning sun out on the patio - her eyes seem to be getting less puffy and the hard areas are now quite softer.
I'm wondering - since NONE of the other dogs are displaying ANY signs of those pesky mites, is it possible that my tiny girl is really having serious allergies? I'm going to have my carpet took up soon for remodel reasons and I'm going with a wood look vinyl....so I'm hoping the carpet being gone is going to be a big plus. I've also noted that on the bum end of one of my boys - had quite a few scabs - that he bit at - but after I washed him in a nice chamolmile shampoo bath they got very soft and I was able to comb most of it off and away. I've also taken to steeping chamomile tea and taking a cotton balls and moistening her eyes - she really fights me on that - but I keep trying and slowly she is getting to allowing me to touch her around the eyes with the liquid. This can't hurt can it?
Is there any other product of natural source that I can also use to give comfort for her?
Also - are there other people on this board who have LOTS of dogs - that DO stay indoors and ARE allowed to sleep in bed with masters? haha!!! Really! I'm afraid i've gotten into this habit and all my chi's get in bed w/ me at night - does anyone have tips on what they do to keep the dander and mites down? I have allergies too.
I've taken to vacumming my bed every couple of nights!!!
Sorry for the long post! Hope someone can give me some insights! Thanks!
