Do dogs have mucus plugs like humans?? Meaning if there is a blood tinge--usually not bright red--but a brownish color---or should i be concerned as she had a small amount of brown tinged mucus
Kim

I know that mucus is released a few hours before labour starts, but I'm not certain about the colour.

well the vet tech at the on call office__my vet is gone for the holidays---said that brownish is OK as long as her temp doesn't go up really high. To keep an eye on her. Dogs have mucus plugs similiar to humans i guess---what color is the stuff the comes right before the first puppy is presented?? anyone know

hi kim,
normally a bitch will lose a mucus plug ,just before labour start, it's normally clear, but can contain a small amount of blood, you should go to your vet if she lose's any green discharge, before a pup is born.when she has her first puppy the green is normal, but any before first puppy and your bitch need's to see a vet immediatly, dont worry everything will go fine .

Well no temp change and the vet tech said that the brownish color is probably a combination of the yukky stuff inside and dirt that she's laying in. no panting or temp drop though--Of course she could've dropp and me not seen it. Appears all she wants todo is sleep

Hi Kim,
Surely it can't be much longer!!! You must be dropping with exhaustion. It's a shame you don't know when she was mated...do you know if the sire is the same breed - I think I missed the early posts.
Let us know how it goes.
