Topic Dog Boards / General / What weight should lab puppy be??

Can anyone tell me what the average weight should be for a lab puppy, my little love is 10 weeks old on Monday. He looks good and seems to be growing daily, bt I don't know what he should weight and how much this should change weekly. If anyone can give me some guidance on how his weight should change up to about 6 months that would be great. Thanks.

My lab at that age was gaining between 1 and 2 pounds a week - if you weigh your pup every week (say Sunday, because it's easy to remember!) as long as he's steadily gaining all should be well. Keep a graph of his weight because then you can reassure yourself.

At 10 weeks mine was 16lb, but your pup may be bigger or smaller-made than her, so weights are only a rough guide.

Hope this helps.

I never bother too much about weight in a young puppy. I think it is easy to get fixated by it. Obviously young puppies sleep a lot at that age but when awake is he active? Bright eyed? Eating well? Nicely covered without being over fat? (Puppies always look a little tubby!!!) If yes to all of these then enjoy your puppy and as it says on page one of Douglas Adams mighty works, "Don't Panic!"

Best wishes, John

My last two babies have been as different as chalk and cheese, Moose was a monster girl and was bilut like a brick privey but now is a lovely proportioned 19 month old. MB was a little girl. She went through a really tubby phase as we were slightly over feeding to compensate for her size but adjusted her food and she is now back to normal levels! As John has said as long as they are happy, healthy and acting like a Lab puppy don't worry.
