When is it a good time ? We have a 5 1/2 month old westie and we want her to have a pal, we want to get another puppy - same breed and sex, but not sure when to do it. I suppose the main point is that Molly is really spoilt & I don't want her to feel left out !!! Opinions please ................

Hi

To be honest, I would wait until she is about 18months old. She is currently still in "dream puppy" mode, give her chance to get through her teens and then see how you feel. At 6 months she will be a bit too boisterous for a small puppy too, so, I would wait a bit if I were you. If she's a bit older then you will have her trained and settled before having to start all over again :)

Hello Lindsey

May I suggest getting a dog of the opposite sex. Females can be the most difficult in getting along with each other. Males and males are far more likely to get on with each other then two females. There is a reason they call them "bitches" :) I would also suggest waiting a bit until the dog is older and out of her teen years. We added a female GSD when our male was about 2 years old. He will still occassionally put her in her place if she is misbehaving.
