My westie bitch has just been for a scan, she is 5 weeks along. It was a very experienced vet who scanned her and she guessed the pups were 6 weeks, when I told her they were only 5 she looked shocked and asked was their any chance that a bigger dog had got to my girl aswell as the stud (he is bigger than her, but she's not a big westie)! I no that this wasn't possible but it has got me worried, as I have read that westie can have problems with their pelvis's being too small. To add to the fact that they are large she's having 5! Which we did not expect being her first litter and the average westie litter being 4! She also told me that my girl will probley not go another 4 weeks and will prob have them in three weeks!
She is already hungry all the time, was a very picky eater before, and we are trying not to give her to much extra food until 6 weeks, as advised, but she is really ravenous! Could giving her extra food now make the pups even bigger? We are giving her rasberry leaf extract, as we have heard good things about it, mainly on here.
Thanks for any advice you can give on this matter!

My girl was scanned at 6 weeks and my vet told me she was more like 7 weeks as the pups bones were visible on the scan and could I have my dates wrong? I was there for both matings so I knew she was 6 weeks. She had the pups on day 60, a litter of 7 pups good weights but no problems! My vet also told me 4 pups........lol.
Try not to over feed her this will make the pups bigger, at 6 weeks you should be feeding her a good quality puppy food!
Good luck

Hi My shih tzu has just had a litter on day 57 her pup's were very good weights, perhap's if the pup's seem so big she may go early, just to add she never had one sign of the iminent birth, she ate, she didn't shiver she only used to dig under the bed but she had done this for about 10 day's before, when she had her first puppy she had it under the bed, we thought she was playing with her squeky toy!! still can't have a much easier birth than that, although at the moment she is the most stressed out mother i have ever seen, over the top is not the word for it. GOOD LUCK :)
