i want to get together as much info as possible, as in about 12 months time i am hoping to mate my bitch and am really interested in the possibilities of using a bobtail line. Any info would be welcome, if anyone knows someone who has used these lines or have actually done this themselves then i would love to hear from you.

Your best bet is to contact genetecist and Boxer breeder Bruce Cattanach.
Why don't you ask Dr Cattanach?
He had 2 out of the 3 bob-tails qualified, shown at Crufts this year and one got a 3rd in
her class.
Go to http://www.steynmere.com
click on the bob-tail button and you will see photo's of the resulting generations
of bob-tails bred so far by Dr Cattanach.
There are a few people that have used the bob-tail studs, but most don't have e-mail/
internet access.
In Norway they have about 80-90 bob-tail boxers and there are some being shown
and winning! I believe that there is interest from other countries in the bob-tail Boxer.

Bruce Cattanach has just bred the first bobtail to bobtail litter. I don' know what stud dogs are out there with the bobtail gene but I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction. Most of the male bobtails went abroad as breeders in this country were a bit reluctant to use them.

Dr Cattanach has at the moment two male bob-tails both are red,
one is a flashy red and white and the other a solid red.
Dr Cattanach only sent one bob-tail male to Norway if I remember correctly called Steynmere Hot-Shot.
His solid red son is still in the UK as are most of the other Steynmere bred bob-tails
There was a brindle and white male of Norwegian breeding that did come to the UK but he was not
of the 'bob-tail' line.
There is one bob-tail bitch in the USA and interest shown in several other countries.

Did he introduce Corgi to get the tail?Do you know if the bobtails have the same temprement as ordinary boxers?Just interested,
Hazel

Yes, he introduced a corgi from a line of natural bob-tails to get the gene. It appears to have been remarkably successful.

Hazel you can read the full story on Dr C's website, under the genetics button.
The corgi was the closest in marking pattern/colour to the boxer & had the bob-tail gene required
to produce the naturally short tail.
Yes bob-tails have very much the same temperament as ordinary Boxers :D

I remember reading about him when we were researching getting a puppy.Sounds facinating,I have read arguments for and against tails and don't realy know where I stand, but this would seem to be an ideal situation suiting both parties?no tail to dock and no tail to prevent showing.I wonder if this is the way it will go with other breeds?

LOL I didn't get to bed until 2 this morning because I went to this site (I grew up with a stormerbanks bob tailed corgi) absolutely fascinating.

I'll have to look at this site. My Spanish can be born with bobtails and nobody here and I don't really think in Spain have tried bobtail to bobtail. Also some can be born with real bobtails and others with short tails so I wondered whether these could go together??
