I got up this morning and my staffie wouldnt even get up off her bed and her rear leg when she did she wouldn't put down, I rubbed her leg because it was the one she had been laying on, I presume she has layed like that most of the night, and after 10 minutes she got up because she wanted to go out, so i carried her out once she was out she seemed not too bad, she was walking but not as she would as normal and didn't seem to be in pain more like uncomfortable as she hurt her feet and leg in the past and she cry's, and she doesn't mind you touching her leg and rubbing it, whereas before when she is hurt she does't like you touching her,
this last week she has got bigger and put on about 3lbs, Yesterday and last night she was completly fine until she had gone to bed last night!
Her temperture for the last 2 days has been 37.4C about 99.2F and still about the same today

Would contact a vet asap.

Well about 2 oclock this afternoon she started to walk again ok, I spoke to the vet and they said see how she goes, But she is back to her old self, Tomorrow we are taking her to our vets for a complete check over, we think she might of had cramp where she had slept on it all night or a trapped nerve but either way its good to have her back to her old self!! but better to be safe than sorry,
well i cant wait till this is all over lately I have had more worry with Mille than my 3 daugthers, Thanks for your help but if this ever happened to any body else I would be glad to hear any information, Lou

I don't want to scare you, but this happened to my bitch 3 weeks before whelping, first the vet thought she had slipped a disc in her back, next day she was fine, then a week later she had eclampsia BEFORE whelping! my vet said it is quite unusual for eclampsia before delivery, but it still happens all the same, so please do get her checked out, it may be nothing in which case you'll have nothing to worry about, but best to be safe

Hi Thanks for your advice I was so worried about her but i am going to get her checked out tomorrow, I would rather be on the safe side and already arranged for a check up tomorrow now she is getting around alot better and back to her old self, I too have been pregnant 6 times and lost 3 and i worried so much this morning about her but the vet said as long as she was getting around now and eating and drinking she was ok, but this was not my normal vet as ours closed down and moved else where, But i have made an appointment with another vet that a friend told me about so I am taking her there for a complete check up and get all the things she will need for whelping, But will probably need loads of reasurance at whelping time as this is my 1st litter although my mum has breed dogs when i was younger but this was many years ago and alot of things have changed, May i please ask you what happened to your bitch when she got eclampsia and what was the other signs? Better to be on the safe side! But I am keeping a very close eye on her now and she is never out my sight as she is following me every where!!

My Maltese bitch had eclampsia before whelping at about 50 days then went into labour the next day, had 1 pup, then stopped, then 2 days later had 5 more. Alldid well untill she killed all but 2 of them.Get your bitch checked out and try another vet.

Hi All, yes i had millie checked over and they said that she was doing well, they said that yes it probably was cramp or a trapped nerve and i have booked to see them again to see her again a few days before she is dew just to keep an eye on her and to be on the safe side, so if all goes well now we have got 14 days left, I am so excited and cant wait! I will keep you all informed and probably ask for more advice nearer to the time.
thanks again Lou

hi eclampsia is very quick onset very alarming to watch and fatal if not treated in time, that said it is very treatable usually with a calcium drip. sign are fatigue, glazed look in eyes, bitch will be off balence and unable to walk properly, legs give way under her, then lock up......calcium tab in food of a girl with a large litter is usually enough to ward it off. puppy food should replace normal meat when pregnant. x

the danger time for eclampsia is usually around three weeks after whelping.............
