I had my dog castrated today but i was under the impression they removed the testicals but it doesnt look like they have it looks as though he has had a vacectomy but then im no vet is this how they do things these days

They do not remove the scrotum and the area will be swollen

Thanks also he didnt give me a lampshade type collar to stophim licking it as he is licking all the time surely that will get infected

HI, the only dog I have had done also looked like they hadn't done anything. I had a very red face when I rang up to complain and the vet assured me it had been done and the swelling would go down in a few days!! :-)
At least you only had a red face, ouch ! :D

You must stop him licking he will make it very very sore, get a collar for him from the vet till the stitches are out.

They just make a little hole and squeeze them out through it

.
Gradually they will shrivel until there is nothing left - but do try and stop him from licking the wound.

must admit it made me cringe :)

I must say that I was surpirised (and shocked) how much it affects the males to castrate them. The only male we have had done for medical reasons was in quite severe discomfort for a week - I must say never again unless absolutely necessary.
