Hi,
My vet told me last week that my dog was having a false pregnancy, although to date she has shown no behavioural signs only the physical ones. However at training class this evening she behaved badly which is unusual for her, she was distracted and snappy towards one of the dogs. The dog in question isn't very friendly and they have had a few arguments before but this had all settled down before. I put it down to over excitement as my dog hates fast movement (shes a border collie) and this seemed to have an unsettling effect. However when we got home she was grumpy and snappy. She took a bit of rubbish out of the bin so my mum took it away from her and megan bit her. She has never done this before and got told off for it. I was wondering if it was just an off day or can the false pregnancy hormones cause her to be more snappy and grumpy? As we have young children in the house we need to know what to expect.

Hi I know exactly what you are going through, my Gsd bitch showed physical and behavioural problems, probably not helped by the fact that her kennel mate had a litter of pups, she too became jumpy and snappy towards her kennel mates and other dogs at training also, I would suggest you take her to the vets again and get her some GALASTOP this is good stuff and should work within 5 days, I tried all the homeoptahic things first but they did not work she was too far gone, even now she thinks these pups are hers, she also stopped eating properly and virtually had nothing to eat for 5 weeks, in fact the only way I get her to eat now is by letting her out with the pups whilst they are feeeding and she polishes off what they have left, she had milk etc but her problems were more physcological than any thingelse

Hi,
Bitches do get very grumpy and naughty during false pregnancies, it's all the hormones flying around. You could try the Galastop as the other poster said, but you could also try Raspberry Leaf Tablets, we use these on our bitches when they have false pregs. they work really well.
Will you have her spayed after this false preg?

Yes, she is due to be spayed next month. We let her have one season as our vet prefers this. We don't want to breed from her so we always planned to have her spayed. I found her season such a hassle, i don't know how others cope!
