Hi all. I have an 18mnth old lab bitch and we are getting our second one in 4 weeks time. Any tips on the first few days of introduction???????

Just let them do their own thing and dont intervein unless you fear for eithers saftey.

I advise you to get 'The Perfect Puppy' by Gwen Bailey, she covers all the aspects of owning and looking after a puppy, from introductions to adulthood.

When i introduced mine i let them in the back garden together - supervised of course, then after 5 mins i took the pup inside on his own, just so he could have a sniff and explore. after 10 more mins i let my older dog in and just let them get on with it. They will sniff and hide, maybe even growl as the pup will have to learn his place. Just watch them incase anything gets too serious, and if it does have a time out. Dont tell them off just take the pup outside (good time to start toilet training lol) and let them have a few mins apart, then go back in and do it all again. They will settle down and its likley that your pup will be very tired from all the excitement and will sleep. :)

Just make sure that you always fuss your older dog before you fuss the pup, this tells the pup that he is lower in ranking and should help stop any fighting that may happen.

hth, Roxanne
