I have told you all about my 6 month Labrador Retriever (Murphy) who has been diagnosed as having OCD and also a"mouse" in his elbow joint. Well, he goes on Monday for a consultaion and then after that an operation. He is on Glucosamine and what a vast improvement!! However, I know this has not taken the fact away that he has OCD. My question is, I am prepared to have him operated on as he is still young and will benefit from it but what will be the outcome?? Will he be "cured" and so therefore recommend the op or will it make no significant difference?? I do not want to put him at risk in anyway and like I said, the Glucosamine has made a vast improvement. Any advice please???

A lot of dogs do get over it in time Karan. I can only suggest that you are led by your vet. He has Murphy in front of him and the x-rays to see whats going on inside. It is as I said possible that he might get over it on his own but then again it could be that he will not without intervention. Certainly with the right treatment he should get over it and be able to lead a full life.

Glad Murphy is feeling better. Glucosamine does not cure it just relieves some of the discomfort around the inflamed cartilege, so don't overdo it!

Go for the op, Murphy will be able to be drug free afterwards if all goes well (don't see why it wouldn't) follow the vets advice EXACTLY and don't take any chances that might jeopardise his recovery. Good luck and keep us informed.
