I have a Staffie and would like to show her but recently she has broken a piece of her K9 off. It is noticeble when checking her teeth but how does this affect her in the ring? Can I still show her? I asked my vet but he didn't know, he suggested it be taken out but not sure if that would make things worse. Can it be repaired? If yes how? Help me please because I've got pictures in my head of my Staffi with a gold tooth bling-blinging her way past the judge!

You can get dental repaires done on dogs, but unless it has exposed the inner part of the tooth I would leave well alone. Most judges will see it for what it is, a broken tooth.

It has gone to the inner part so I think I'll get it looked at by a specialist. There's about 1/2 the K9 missing and it is very noticable. I just hope the judge will see it as "just a broken tooth". I don't even know if she is in pain. The vet said no, the specialist said yes. I would like to believe the dental specialist but he seemed very keen to get £700 out of me. He told me that it needed to be done right away and not to prolong the agony of the dog. He hasn't even met my dog yet. My vet said only if the dog refuses to eat should we assume it is in pain.
Thanks for the advice,
Sadie

If you had the tooth repaired then you could not show it, as you would have altered it's appearance. Now if the tooth needed filling, but wasn't enhanced then I think the KC would allow that, but you would have to apply for permission to show. If the tooth was removed it would affect the dogs chances in the ring more than with a bit of it missing.
Obviously you will need to ensure that the dog is comfortable.

Callum my gsd broke one of his front teeth and he had it fixed as best as it could be done by the doggie dentist, i still show him and you can see that it is broken, it doesnt make any difference to where he gets placed, if you are worried about it then get a letter from the vet to say it was an accident and that she wasnt born with it so you can present it to the steward when you show her, are the staffy people worried about broken teeth in your breed or not? in gsds they dont seem to be so see how it goes but i would get it fixed as soon as, if she is insured then go through them to get it fixed,Callums cost £245 and i claimed most of that back, good luck with it

Also have a dog with a broken tooth, that shows the dentine and it has caused no trouble. Did not know about it until he was hip scored and the vet phoned to say we have found a broken tooth do you want us to remove it, we were going to but thought we had better ask. Well I said no, and to date it is causing not trouble.

Hi, My friends Stafford ran into a patio dog & broke his K9, he had it removed & the vet gave them a letter to prove it was removed due to medical reasons. My friend kept the letter on her at shows to show the judge if she was asked.
Anyway since then he has been made up as Champion.
