Wooo you're cutting it a bit fine, should have asked this before the mating :) I see the Book of the Bitch recommended on here often, for my first litter my 'bible' was the Welping Video by the Guide Dogs for the Blind its produced by DBI Communication Tel:01926497695, I found it very useful to actually see the events that you are led to expect by a book. There video on the first 6 weeks of rearing is very good too. Let your vet know about the expected date and started checking temperature (rectally :)) everly 12 hours for about 1 week before, having exstablished her base line a drop of about a degree usually heralds the start of labour within the next 24 hours. Have you identified a nice quiet place in the house for the welping bed? Needs to be away from other dogs, kids, etc. Good luck.

PS Are you a member of the CDB. If you are planned to have the puppies docked [this is not an invitation to discuss the subject ;)) you need to join now they will put you in touch with your nearest docking vet, you will need to budget well over £100 for them to visit if they are a distance away but I have never considered it a satisfactory alternative to take the puppies to them.

My vet only charged me £55 for docking and dew claw removals for all 7 of my pups, so I guess I was lucky and this vet was recommended to me by CDB!

It not really the charge for the docking I think thats only £5 a pup, but I haven't had a litter for over two years, it's the call out fee. My vet's visit involves a 21/2 round trip so, given that, I think his fee is very reasonable, less than a plumbers :D but obviously its fortunate if you have a willing vet nearer than that :).

Edited - well it's not really call out fee, just travel expenses and time really, otherwise if he was a plumber it would be more like £300 for the same amount of time:D

I don't think you have time to shop around for second hand boxes - Tia needs to be getting used to her box as soon as poss. You can get disposable whelping boxes here - one of these might be your best option at this late stage. I agree with Isobel - make sure you have a copy of "The Book of The Bitch" (or a breeding video) & study it thoroughly. Cocker bitches usually have their pups fairly easily but you need to be prepared for the unexpected as sometimes things do not go to plan & you need to know when to call for veterinary assistance.
