I have had Dylan for a week now, and maybe I was being a little too optimistic, but I expected him to adore me by now! The only time he is interested in me is when I have a piece of cheese! I am at home the whole time, I play with him, I feed him. I expected to walk in the door to a waggy tail, but I get ignored. Am I doing something wrong, or does it take a while?

he will soon get used to you and adore you, honest.i've had my pup amber for just over a week now and she comes when i call her, but she is obsessed by my other dogs as well.what breed is dylan?amber is a choc lab and she's gorgeous!

He's a boxer, 8 weeks old.

How many other dogs do you have?

Dylan is my only dog, but I have 2 cats, one of which put Dylan firmly in his place this morning!

Hiya,
i`ve had Jack for nearly 6 weeks now ( boy does time fly!), and i totally understand what you mean, i`m also at home all day, boys at school , hubby at work etc... thaa first few weeks getting up every couple of hours during the night (very hard for someone who LOVES their sleep!) feeding him playing with him and no tail wagging... Hubby said he was but i couldn`t see!! the cheek anyway all the boys inc hubby got tremendous kisses etc not me....then one day he was just as happy to see little old me!
So I am sure Dylan will be the same, just wait and see!! what a cutie, he is!

All the best,

Leesa.

p.s. Jack shares some of Dylans blood lines,CH Faerdorn Fineas Fogg Jacks granpa, Faerdorn This N That GT granny

Hi Leesa, thanks for that, I feel slightly better ! I looked at your pics of Jack when I saw boxers mentioned on another post, he is so cute! He has wonderful markings on his face!

You were good, getting up every couple of hours during the night! I haven't been able to face doing that, but I go to bed quite late, and get up quite early, and I prefer getting a solid 6 hours or so sleep, and having to clear up one or two puddles, than having broken sleep. Oh the joys of laminate flooring!

hehehehe...im quite lucky really i have a now 10wk old Mini Schnauzer and we have had him for 3 weeks...he loved me instantly (probably becuase im at home all day and take care of him) but it took him a good week to like hubby lol! He will come round, just play lots and make a big fuss. I found that my pup is not really that impressed by treats, but his tail really waggs when i crouch low and talk to him and fuss him...his little bottom waggs so hard he falls over :)

i just wanted to say about the sleep and house training....you say that you leave them overnight and clean up in the morning...i know its hard work getting up but it really is worth it! I have been getting up with Monty for 3 weeks now..he started to wake me at 4 for a wee and now he can sleep in untill 6:30..we never have any mess at night and day time training has just taken a new turn as he has learnt to sit by the door if he needs to go out :) I really do think that the last 3 weeks or broken sleep have been worth it, and perhaps you might want to try...they will learn a lot faster (do you have The Perfect Puppy bu Gwen Bailey? - you really should read it...wonderful tips)

It was just a thought as i read your post :)

aah i love boxers.i've got 3 others a lab cross ,poppy whos 6, a choc lab milo whos 2 and a black lab daisy whos 2.5.theyre all absolutely brilliant dogs.poppy is being a bit grumpy with amber at the moment but that's only cos she's a bit of a fogey now in comparison.i love the name dylan, it's one of my faves.

Wow, do you take them all out at the same time? It must be hard work!
- By miloos [gb] Date 14.05.03 13:27 UTC
yeah me and my hubby.i have the two girls and he has milo the beast who always has to be in front.it is hard work but they're all so loving and happy, it's really worth it.We have a massive park about 200 metres away, as well as a huge garden so that makes it easier.amber is very extroverted for a puppy, and is always wagging and jumping up, but she gets a lot of bad habits off the other dogs.it was so funny yesterday when the bin men came; the older 3 were doing their usual barkathon and amber just stood behind them and joined in with her baby barks even though she didn't know what was going on!!
