My girl had 7 pups and was still playing and chasing around the garden like a puppy the week before, although you should try and slow her down if possible, the last few days before delivery she slept most of the time and the weight stopped her from jumping up on the furniture etc. You will have to be careful with her, sometimes they forget about this sudden weight gain and can fall and injure themselves!

Good luck, let us know the outcome.

Hi, new also.
Ain't this site GREAT? My 3 yr old bitch is on her 53rd day and, shall we say is getting rather large but, still likes to run around and chase the squirrels. She did have a litter over a year ago and didn't start to slow down until afew days before she was due. She is sooo affectionate she will jump into your arms for a cuddle, but fortunately, now she is too big and just manages to get on the sofa for a cuddle.
Your beloved will slow down when she feels she is taking on too much. Possibly only the day before.
Good luck with yours and hoping for a speedy, daytime delivery!!!!

They just do what comes naturally... If they are tired they sleep, if the need to take it easy they take it easy... but they never forget about play!
I find it sort of reassuring when they are active I get more worried when things go quiet!
She will know herself when its time to take it easy!

All the best(we are right behind you...-- aiming for the bank holiday weekend!!)

Hi, my dog is on her 53rd day is sleeping a lot. She is so big that she moves slowly with almost everything she does. She is discharging a little bit of clear fluid now and then which is beginning to make her hair a little sticky. She was keeping herself pretty clean but now she can't reach it. I was bathing her weekly as she has air born allergies and I've been trying to keep her pads clean. Anyway I can't lift her in the tub anymore and she can't jump in. We have a place called scubbin bubbles which I intend to take her to. She has started panting now and then. When she does this she usally lays down for a few minutes and then she seem to be okay again. Do you think they know what's going on. Do they realize that they are going to have puppies. I wonder that because it makes me wonder what they must think when they have there first one, do they realize that they are in labor? I have read so much on yes they do, and also no they don't it must be each dog themselves vary. Nugget my dog wants nothing more then for you to lay beside her and rub her belly. She is so big and her tits are at least 4 times there normal size maybe more. I realized today for the first time her milk has come in.I can hardly wait and yet I'm afraid for her. How exciting and how worrysome at the same time. How early would be to early to have them. I worry because I feel like I'm starting to see signs I read about. Or am I just watching for them? I have the book of the bitch and what a comfort it has been. Nugget has slowed down a lot, she is still playful sometimes but I have to start it with her favorate toy. She has not gone off her food at all. If anything she is eager for it. She use to take it so gently. Now I think she's trying to get it as fast as she can. I hope this changes back to the way she was before. I don't like her grabbing at it.

My little one is 25/27days I wish there was an early way of telling, I am a wreck. I've read so many books its doing my head in. The only change in her is that she's taken to sleeping under the table, instead of her usual bed. Any tips?

The only certain way of telling is to wait and see! ;)

At about 28 days your vet should be able to palpate (gently) the 'marbles' that are the whelps. At 7 weeks you should start to feel the pups movements, and at 8 weeks you'll be able to see the bitch's belly bubbling like a pan of porridge.

Only time will tell.

at about this time you could get he scaned,
Iv had most of my bitches scaned at about 28 days just to make sure they can also say how many they are having (but they can be wrong) ask your vet do they do it or do they know any one that does
