Hello happybunny :) Have you taken your dog to training classes at all ? It may be that he needs more in the way of basic obedience in order to put him firmly in his place at the bottom of the heap :)

Melody :)

Thanks for all the advice but i have tried everything stated by you all he has been to training classes but nothing would work the lady told me he was a nuisance which upset me as i dont class him as a nuisance he is only 7mnths old and maybe he is just a bit slow at growing up one other thing is he seems very excitable when we are going out for a walk he screams all the way to the end of the road and acts like he has never been for a walk people stop and stare at me as if i dont know how to handle him. i even tried the perfect puppy book but to no avail he is so hyper i am at my wits end i love him so much but he is getting a bit much(

Hi - Is he still intact ?? At 7 months he will be entering adolesance and hormones will be raging-It sounds like he is pushing the barriers , stay firm with him -make him wait for food , give him toys when you want him to have them and take them away ( they are yours not his )-the mounting is not acceptable behaviour and tell him so , the heel does take work -they don't do it naturally and the jumping up that too can be corrected .
training classes ae a good idea as these will show you ' how ' to deal with these problems
All this said he's still a puppy and alot of it is puppy behaviour and normal but needs to be sorted now before he gets ideas above his station .
if you can't get out to training classes then I would buy a good training book and spend time every day - little and often and you will see an improvement
good luck
Liz :)

As Liz said Training is the Key. There are some good videos also available. I rather like the Dunbar ones. I once bought the one for training for children which was good, leant it to somehone and can't remember who just that I never got it back!

Put Dog training videos into a search engine. Here is one link for Ian Dunbar's who is very entertaining and easy to watch and understand http://www.driandunbar.com/products/videos/videos.htm

Hi Happybunny,

He is going through his teenage period and will be trying you out to see what he can get away with, typical boy!! :D

Definately training, you need to find a motivational training class, use the APDT website to find one in your area or mail me personally and I will look in my book for you.

You need to work through this and I would wait until he is over a year old before considering neutering, unless the humping problem is so serious you cannot cope anymore and then I would suggest chemical castration to start with.

Be firm and don't let him get away with anything you consider bad behaviour, but don't be aggressive toward him, just be kind and firm and often giving an alternative behaviour will help to break the habit.

I used to have a Cav, years ago now, she was a Ruby and the Rubies can sometimes be a bit more cheeky than the others colours, she was a fantastic obedience dog and won quite a lot.....bless her!! :)

Good luck and be patient.
