Topic Dog Boards / Health / Xray worry - Colitis!

My 15 week old Westie has had terrible Colitis basically since we bought her. It hasn't cleared up through antibiotic injections and the vet has decided to give her an xray tomorrow and check if there is something lodged in her tummy or if she has a twist in her intestine. Has anyone else had any problems with this either the Colitis being bad or the twisted intestine - we have only had her 3 weeks but she is my little baby girl and I am truly worried! Any advise would be helpful.

A friend of mine did have a dog that suffered very badly from colitis. The only thing they could do was to keep her on a very strict diet. Not sure if every now and then she had to have a course of antibiotics and some steroids. She did live a long and relative healthy life. Have you spoke to the breeder of your puppy and asked if any of the other puppies had colitius or even the parents. Is colitis hereditory - does anybody know ?

Thanks Margaret, I have spoken to the Breeder and she says none of them have had it before and she has both the parents! She has been great this morning. Starving (can't give anything until after the xray) running around just like a normal puppy - so I'm now wondering if it has nothing to do with Colitis! Its a worry.

I have a thirteen year old Lab who developed colitis four years ago. We nearly lost her but managed through a lot of effort to get her stabilized with feeding her on JWB. She did however still have bouts but these were controlable. We have however just got her on Nature diet and have seen an amazing improvement in her already ! No wind and solid poos, and a new zest for life so far so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will continue.

I would question the diagnosis of colitis at such a young age. What have you been feeding her on and how often etc ?
