I have had our black labrador for a week now and whilst we are trying very carefully to not allow too much excercise and jumping (which at times can be hard to stop when he is excited), he has developed a click in his right back leg joint - I am not sure which one. It clicks more in the morning and when he gets up, or when he goes to lie down.
Does anybody know why this happens or what this could mean? I have an appointment at the vets but just wondered if anyone has had the same problems?
Many thanks

My year old spaniel had the same thing when we first got her. We took her to the vets and he told us she had a "clicky hip" and told us not to exercise her too much and keep an eye on her. I think you should take you puppy just for peace of mind, but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
Good luck!

I brought a lab puppy and found she had a clicky hip. The breeder and I took her to the vet to get her checked out and he said it was difficult to tell until she was older whether there was a problem. At 5 months the click disappeared. She has just had her hips and eyes tested and although I haven't had her hip score back yet the x-ray looked good. I also reminded the vet that she had had a clicky hip and he looked at the x-ray closely and said there was nothing there to indicate any problem. The dog is 16 mths old now.

Many thanks for your replies.
The vet felt a click in his hind right knee, we are going to keep an eye on it each month to make sure, but she feels it is just a case of the bones being loose as he is growing fast, being a large dog.
I am to keep the playing as calm as possible and to keep the protein levels down (I am feeding Naturediet at the momment) so as to avoid him growing too fast.
Thanks!
