I have noticed that since I had my bitch mated that other dogs have been paying her more attention than normal.
Has anyone else noticed this, it hasnt happened in any of her previous seasons.

Hi,
How many times has she been mated before, have you noticed this previously? If not, could possibly be the beginnings of a little infection and the others dogs are smelling something different.
Dogs are always interested in our bitches when they have false pregnancies, but have never had any problems during proper pregnancies.

Now I am a bit worried, cause this morning she had a little bit of discharge. What petrifys me is Pyometra. She is off her food in the mornings but has been for about 2 weeks now, she eats well in the evening.
Would I be right in thinking that she would have been really poorly by now if the initial appetite problem had been caused by an infection?
She's not drinking excessively and her urination hasnt changed. Her teets are getting larger and she is not letharigic or lacking in energy when she is out on a walk?
The Discharge first appeared during the first two weeks then disappeared 2 days before I took her to the vets(Typical) he put her on a course of anti-biotics(synolux) to be on the safe side, but now the discharge is back. It is not foul smelling and is a mucousy sort of consistancy, not white but kind of clear opaque in colour.
Getting very worried, may take her back for a blood count, any suggestions?

Johnny,
I would make my next call to the vets. It may appear that the antibiotics have done their job in preventing the problem from getting any worse but it also seems apparent that the problem has returned after the antibiotic course. This, seems that although they are preventing it , theay aren't actually getting rid of the problem if there is one.
I'm not in touch with the breeding side of it, maybe if you went to the breeding board and posted the same, you might have a few more responses.
Best wishes

Thing is she is still on the anti-biotics, well finished the course this morning.
So the problem has either been there for two or more weeks and has not progressed, or this is a different problem that the anti-biotics have failed to sort out! I believe that it may well be linked to the breeding thing and might just be one of those things, people on the breeding forum say that discharges are to be expected at different times throughout the course of the breeding.
The discharge only occurs very minimally first thing in the morning, and it is not like she is bothered by it, licking and cleaning etc.
Temperature is still normal.
And she still has all of the energy in the world.
Confused and the vet doesnt seem to do much to help matters!
Just an idea but do you think that the discharge might be a reaction to the anti-biotics? Seems that the first course she was on the discharge arose towards the end and then disappeared afterwards and the same has happened with this lot, she had no discharge and hadnt had for about 4 days when I started the course and then 5 or 6 days into the course she starts with the discharge again?
Makes sense but will check things out at the vets. She is due for a scan on Friday so will ask about it then!

Sorry forgot to mention that this is her(And my) first breeding.
She is a large girl Mastiff type and I would say that the amount of discharge wouldnt probably be noticed in a smaller breed.

You do sometimes get a little discharge on and off during a pregnancy, one of our bitches had a small discharge occasionally and she had 6 lovely pups with no problems, but it's always worth a blood test to check for white cells (infection fighters).
It's better to be over cautious and annoy your vet, than to leave things and have problems later on. :)
