I know its not dog related you have helped me with the dog can any one help with a rabbit. We have a white rabbit that over a period of three months suddenly collapses as tho' paralysed, in a state of collapse pippet fed liquids, then gradually recovers. No apparent cause other than another one attacked it originally. Now the rabbit is on her own.

Any ideas??

Hi,

I used to breed rabbits and guinea pigs, has your white rabbit got blue eyes or is he an albino?

Blue eyed whites sometimes have wierd things going on, but never heard of this one and I know albino rabbits often sway, as though in a trance.

Do you think he could have mild epilepsy? Could it be an inner ear problem that is making him dizzy? Has he ever had eardrops used for dogs and cats over a period longer than 7 days?

A friend of mine has french lops and british giant rabbits and one of her french's had treatment for an ear infection using eardrops for dogs and cats and her vet told her to use it for 1 months......her rabbit started having sort of fits two or three times a day and heavy breathing all the time. She spoke to the manufactorers and they said that animals should not be on eardrops for longer than 7 days without a break, because it affects the inner ear and causes balance problems. She took her off the eardrops and she hasn't had any problems yet and it's been over a week now.

It is an albino. The condition seems to last about 24-36hours and then makes a full recovery. There are no reflexes in the back legs at all at the moment. By tomorrow she should be fine again. She hasn't done this for about two months.

There is no dizziness just sudden paralysis, movement in front legs and head. we put her on straw in a cat basket with a drink bottle by her head. She manages to have little drinks and then gradually recovers. Very strange, vet hasn't a clue. Possible vetebrae in neck out of alignement is all I can think of.

Hi Guest,
There is a Rodent Research Centre which would be the place to contact - they even advise the vets!, but I don't know the details at the moment :( sorry. My small child has leaflets about pet rabbits and the info is on them, so when I find them I will post the info asap.

Regards
Dill
