I was quite surprised when reading on champdogs that an exhibitor had telephoned the judge after they had given their dog best of breed at Birmingham. Is this normal practise ? As I am new to showing does this happen all the time ? How do you get judges telephone numbers do the k.c keep a record ?Having had some lovely wins lately with my puppy I know wonder if I should have rang the judges to thank them.

I don't know if it is normal practice, but I bet the judge thought it made a nice change to receive thanks for their judging instead of criticism :D

i rang the judge tell her that the dog went on to take a group placement, just as well i did, as it was amazing to hear some of the things other folk come out with when theyre beaten -ringing a judge [AFTER] a judging appointment cant be seen as wrong-its the ones that contact them [BEFORE] you need to worry about, and her group placement makes her currently top sharpei, so felt it would be nice to thank the judge afterwards

Phew I didn't think it could be a wrong thing to do after the event, thanks for explaining :)

Hi guest - why not join and tell us your pups breed and show name, and then we can watch out for it :D

guest, when you have been involved with your breed for some time, you will find that you are being judged by your friends, and there fore its quite understandable that you will ring them or speak to them! In fact I have travelled to long distance shows WITH the judge on several occassions!

the judge that gave me bob this time-threw me out last time i was under here about 6 years back, didnt know her then, and dont no her now, but she obviously preferred this dog to my previous one :D

Sam, you say you have travelled to shows with the judge on several occasions. My own opinion on that is that it would cause bad feeling among the other exhibitors at the very least, if they knew. It's one of those things that would go down as a no no to me.
