I have a 15 mth old labrador who when asleep wets himself.
Sometimes he just drips but other times after a very long walk, he will completely wet himself.
I probably first noticed it when he was about 6 months old but didn't take any notice. He also wees at the same time as he has a poo causing him to wet up his chest! ( This has got better)
I thought this was all part of him being a puppy and the fact that he has never been great at going out the garden but we have now moved and he loves to be outside and wees frequetly.

Anyone help? I just wanted some feedback before I take him to the vets and look very stupid. I also don't want him pulled around if its not essential.

He is very happy in himself and the rest of his litter don't do it.

Nicolla

I would take him to the vets, may have a kidney infection or the start of a kidney problem. One of my dogs started this at around 2 years old, especially after waking up after a long sleep. It was a kidney problem but he lived until 14 years on Hills prescription KD diet, it was brilliant. If I tried changing his food it came back, but on the diet no problem.

Good luck

Hi,

Definately a trip to the vets would be worth it. He could have an underlying urinary tract infection that hasn't quite gone away, or he could have a problem with his plumbing... if you know what I mean :)

This is definately not normal and needs to be investigated!!

Hi

Went to vets today and we are going to go back next Monday for a GA and X-rays plus some dye testing. Vet thinks one of the tubes may be missing the bladder but is not sure. He said if it is just muscle weakness then we can use Propalin. So just got to wait and see.

Will let you know how we get on.

Well Quest is in the vets so I now have to sit here and hope its good news. Should have him back at about 4pm which means my nails will be extremely short. I've already eaten two bars of chocolate and had 5 cups of tea!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the news is better than it could have been!

The vet says he has damaged the nerve that sends the signal to the brain that he needs to go to the toilet, so that unless we take him to the garden he doesn't know he needs to go. This would fit in with the fact that sometimes he will pee for 5 minutes+ when we are out the garden.

A while ago I posted on here that this dog had jumped off a 20ft bridge but had no injuries, the vet feels that the damage was probably done at this time. I feel so guilty but its too late now.

No matter what this dog has always been very special and will always be very special.

Has the vet said that there is nothing that can be done for him then ?

Hi

No he says there is nothing that can be done.

I suppose looking back when jumped off the bridge I should have taken him in for some x-rays etc but I just thought he had a lucky escape, and being a puppy he had bounced. He landed in 3 ft of water on his feet. Stood there, shoke himself and then just carried on running. I checked him over later and the next day and remember saying to him that he must have a guardian angel!!!!!!

It's not going to prove a big problem I hope, and he is very happy in every other way.

Hi nicolla,
aww the poor dog. Thats the thing with internal injuries... I think thats although its sad and will be a bit messy from time to time things will be ok. My other dog 'Murphy' is 8, he's a mongrel. He wee's if someone says hello to him. If he is told no. He's always been like that. I had him when he was 6 weeks old so i know its not because he's scared. Good luck with your dog (sorry dont know his name)

To go with my 6 yr old rotti who suffers from incontinence after being spayed and she is called pissy pants!!!!!!!!

Yes I know its not funny to laugh at them but never mind.

No, but I do have a labrador with a very untidy undercarriage who I call titties. Never meet anybody much out on walks anyway.

Hi,
Hope you don't mind me writing, but my dog (he is about 2yrs old) has just started wetting himself in his sleep. The vet treated him for a urinary tract infection, which she said had cleared up. The next suggestion she made is propaline. But I was thinking maybe my dog might need more tests. Which tests did your vet do for your dog when you took him in?

Thanks!

Hi Monkey

My dog had a dye put through his body to check that all his tubing was connected properly.
The vet also x rayed his spine and stomach to check for anytime BUT this was due to a fall from 20ft up as a puppy which the vet thought may have injured something and might be causing the problem.
After all the tests it was nerve damage which means he does not know when he needs to go to the toilet, so we just have to make sure we remind him to go and wee. Very easy cause we take him into the garden with all the other dogs and he will automatically go where the bitches wee.

Good luck with your dog.
