Hi All,
comments and experiences of tinned butchers tripe please.I've got a 14 month old elkie whos been off his food for about 6 weeks now and has become lethargic and disinterested.Tried this for the last couple of days and he loves it.I don't like tinned food but was getting desperate(been putting food for 10 mins then removing it for last 6 weeks-even took him to the vets tuesday to get him checked out)and if it restores his usual gusto I'm willing to give it a go.
Regards Archer

It is one of the better tinned foods. If you are feeding complete, try soaking it and letting it dry, then crumble it up and mix it in a little tinned food. It is the only way I get my pup to eat complete.
Sandra
I don't think there is anything wrong with it - as it's tripe based, it's what i used to feed ebbie. She was a fussy eater and this was all i could get her to eat - on a take or leave it basis though. Since coming on this and another site now feed the prize choice frozen food, and it's brill, some of em smell good enough to eat when i am heating them up - not the tripe one though yuk!!!!!
Ebbie never leaves any of it, waits eagerly for it as well, so i wouldn't change back, but it's whatever you can get, afford and that the dog likes as well. My pup, finn, is on nutro dry complete and loves that, he is allergic to chicken and nutro is lamb based so makes for much better tummies lol

Hi Archer
My lot love it :D mixed with their complete the bowls are licked clean, it's also a good tinned food so if that's what yours is ok with at the moment i stick with it.

I have fed Butchers tripe for years and the dogs love it and do well on it. The adults just have a little with their complete biscuit, but I wean pupies onto it and their diet is about 40% Butchers. I think its the best tinned meats, gentle on tummies usually too.

It says on the tin suitable for all ages so it should be fine mixed with complete for a youngster.

Why not try the Naturediet products. Sealed trays, of best quality products - human grade foods - same consistancy as Butchers but without inevitable smells :o mine produced afterwards!

Hi, Butchers tripe is good stuff but dont overdo it!! If fed with a high protien complete puppy food it might be too rich if you feed more than about 20% Butchers. What complete are you going to use? I would suggest one from the Burns range+Butchers as Burns is high quality but a lower protein than most- good for larger breeds like yours.

I feed Autarky complete and they've all done really well on it so its what I'll be sticking to it.Its not high protein(20 %) but am using mixer/complete together to ensure not too much protein.I know its not ideal and I 'm hoping given time he'll grow out of this awkward stage as he was always a good eater but at least hes now eating and he seems a lot happier.
Archer.

How have you found their coats on the Autarky Archer? I have had mine onit for a month, but as I have just had a psot whelping moult with Kizi, and the others also shedding I cannot ascertain this as yet!
Even Kizi the fussy one likes the taste, but again having recently had pups her appetite has been good, so interested to see if it will continue.

Hi Barbara
mine all love Autarky (until Kas went off his food altogether) and its the only dry food they'll eat on its own.Asa had a terrible coat before but his coat has really bloomed on Autarky and hes put on muscle and general condition without getting fat.Kaspers coat it beautiful and hes been on it since he was about 3 months(puppy then adult).
Kasper WILL be going back onto it ASAP.I would recommend it to anyone and I won't be changing.
Nikki.

Oh I am glad, as Margaret Harper has been using it on the sister to hewr Best Veteran winner. She was having trouble with her keeping muscle and condition (they are 11 years old). She recome3nded I try it as she has been using it since Crufts, and the bitch has improved greatly. Lets hope I have simnilar results, as they certainly like the taste, and it does smell rather interesting.

Fingers crossed!!

I have fed butchers tripe tinned meat to all my dogs since babies & they have never turned their nose up at it.
They have all done really well on it & its so much better than pedigree chum stuff which my dogs hate.
The only problem i do find is you have to give it sparingley with a good complete meal because with being tripe it has a high fat content & it can put weight onto a dog quickly.
I give 1 tin between 5 adult dogs with complete meal & with a pup i give them the whole tin throughout the day with complete puppy meal by BETA until they are 6months old then they are onto adult portions.
Bye
Angela.
By the way does anyone elses dogs pass wind quite alot with butchers tripe? i know a couple of mine do & god its WHIFFY!

All my dogs love Butchers, from my pup to the adults. I find it helps to keep them interested in their complete food if I mix a bit in every now and then. I can also recomend HiLife Chicken Dinner flavoured with Tripe to mix in to add a bit of interest. It comes in little sealed bags and I add a little to my pups food which he loves. The great thing is as it is nearly dry it doesn't smell at all! I buy mine from Morrisons.
Best Wishes

My whippet likes butchers tinned food but I would like to find a very good mixer, Harvey has itchy skin and I'm trying to find some cure. I have used pedigree small bite mixer but as I want to try and give a natural diet without additives I wondered if there was a better mixer. I have heard of naturediet on this site so I thought I might try it . Can you give naturediet on its own or would this be too rich, Harvey has had colitis in the past.

Hi Archer,
I cannot speak more highly regarding Butchers Tripe tinned food. My Border Collie cross loved it and it was his only food. Sadly he has recently left me but he was the good old age of 16 (had him from 12 weeks). He never had a single day of poor health - he lost his mobility at the end but was otherwise in very good health and his coat was beautiful.
I do really think its a very good product. Lots of interesting 'flavours' too!
Best wishes,
Val

i mix mine with James well being and this goes down well
i mix the tinned food with a bit of water before mixing it with the dried food it makes it go futher and therefore you can use less as my pup wont eat dry on its own but will eat full amount of dry if he has tin i feed 1 tin between 3 meals and i contacted the makers of the dry and they were helpful told me to mix it with water and reduce the amount of dry slightly then slowly reduce the amount of tin but he eats so much better now i think ill let him continue
