Topic Dog Boards / Health / Weimeraner with itchy ears

My Weimeraner gets allergies from March - September. This is usually just itchy skin which I can control with Wendals Stop Itch, but now he has very hot, red, rashy, itchy ears and they really hurt him. The vet gave him steriods and drops but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have any suggestions as the vet seems to have run out of ideas!

my lab had the same problem at the the same time of year until i tried thornit powder.from champion pet supplies, telephone 02476354304.it has worked like a miracle for my dog, who's ear problems were adding up to hundreds of pounds at the vets.hope it works for you!!i

Hi Sandcastle, I have a male weim with itchy ears, they too get very hot and go red. At this time of year I go out and collect nettles (wearing gardening gloves) and bring them home. Put into a jug and cover with boiling water, leave to steep until liquid has gone cool. Strain off and using cotton wood soak the ears on the outside with the liquid. Do this a couple or three time a day. It can be stored in the fridge in airtight container and used over a couple of weeks. It works for me!

Best wishes
Lynn

Just wanted to say thank you. The Thornit powder has worked. It doesn't look like much but it really is fantastic! Much cheaper than any vets bill!

Hi,

Just a thought.....have you heard of (or tried) "No Cank" made by Animal Health Company or "Thornit" (can't remember who makes this), they both have fab results in many different ear problems.

Yep, Thornit powder is very good, cleared up Mungos ears a treat - I also wasted money at the vets on drops
