Does anyone know if there is a site, or even if such a thing is possible, where you can put in the number & it tells you whose it is?

BT Directory Enquiries and thats as much as you get ..name and address in and then you get the number. I think the other way around is illegal in the UK ..but I could be wrong ;)

Oh, well I didnt know it was illegal...just sort of seemed logical to me thats all!!!
No Lel...just that someone keeps ringing but never leaves a message on the machine. I rarely answer my "work" phone after 8 in the evening & figure that if someone wants to speak to me then they can leave a message & I will ring them back! Just irritates me & thought it would be good to know who it is. I have rung the number several times but never an answer.

can you narrow it down through the area code?

there is a site that will narrow it down even further than that - but not to the exact address....

Is it around the same time every day that it happens ? If so it may well be somebody like the Mortgage Company. They have been pestering us now for months and it is always around the same time that they ring. If we leave the phone to go to answerphone they hang up. If we answer it is them !

It maybe worthwhile registering with the Mail Preference Services and Telephone Preference Services - its free, and easily done online - It takes about four months before you would notice the junk mail has stopped coming through your door and those dammed "cold callers" ringing you early evening. I'm no good at this link/url stuff, but a simple search for tps online or mps online should do it.
