hello
we have just added a beautiful blue great dane puppy to our family we did alot of research before we picked a great dane but any advice would be gratefully recieved
we have only had her home for two days and she seems to be settling in fine
the only thing she seems to do that has caused us any concern is to growl or bark when someone enters the room . is this a problem we have to curb now?

Hello
I have a blue Great Dane pup who is 8 months, and I am sure Grace will be along soon (she's got 4!).
My Willis did a fair bit of growling when I first got him, but, I said NO when he did it and he soon learned we were not for growling at :) I have found Willis to be the most protective and guarding dog I have ever had, and the sheer size and sound of him makes grown men shake in their shoes :D
Relax and enjoy your pup while she's small enough to have a cuddle without flattening you against the wall :D

I agree with Chloe to stop it from growling now while your puppy is still young. It's probably just unsure of strangers, once you start taking her out and about to socialise her she will soon get over her fear and will soon be covering them all with huge slobbery kisses ! I know, as I too have 4 great danes !

Hi
Take her to the school at going home time, in your arms, and let lots of kids and mums fuss her, and let her get used to all the hustle and bustle and noise. It worked like a dream with Willis and he is the best dog i have ever had for being sociable with people and children (he loves them!). Try to take her as many places as possible to socialise her now, and it will filter through to what she is like at home then.

Well I felt I ought to make an appearance as Chloe said I would :D As the others have said the growling and barking is very probably down to her feeling insecure. Make sure she knows it's not acceptable behaviour whilst at the same time reassure her so she will soon realise there is nothing to be afraid of. Also make sure the children are always supervised when they are with the puppy so they don't inadvertantly scare her. Like Chloe says if you can take her out with you as much as possible, in arms until she's vaccinated, then she will soon become accustomed to all the sights and sounds around, and grow into a confident girl. Hope All that helps
Grace :)
