My 13 year old G. Schnauzer Merlin, has partial paralysis of the larynx
One of the effects of this condition is that he has a reduced ability to cool himself as his panting is less effective due to the restricted airflow.
We have to be very careful that he doesn't overheat even in seemingly cool weather conditions. We are restricted to short walks either early in the morning or late in the evening.
I wondered if anyone had practical experience of managing this condition or has anyone had a dog who has undergone surgery to assist the airflow through the larynx?

Ihave had three Afghans with laryngeal paralysis. All have had surgery to tie back the vocal cords. This is usually done on the left side of the neck. A dog I bred had this done last Novermber at 121/2 years and recovered well. This type of surgery is usually carried out by a specialist so you would need to be referred.

Thanks for the info Sue, its encouraging to know that your dogs ops were successful. I will talk further with my vet.
