My 1 year old Golden Retriever has a saggy belly, there is NO chance she is pregnant, she's not having a phantom pregnancy ( her last season was January) and is certainly not overweight, if anything she's slightly on the lean side.

Is this normal and is there anything I can do to make her slightly less saggy?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Bless her, early middle aged spread!! :D

Have you had her from a pup, could she have been bred from on her first season and never come back into shape again? How long has she been like this?

I have a 12.5 year old bitch, who has had 1 litter at about 4 years old and she has never recovered from her saggy belly. She was well exercised during and after her pregnancy and was certainly not overweight and isn't now. She was treated the same as another of our bitches, who has had 1 litter, age 3 and recovered her shape almost immediately!! Strange

The only thing I can suggest is more exercise and possibly swimming which might help to tighten the muscles and flab :D

I sincerly hope that at one year old she has not been bred from! Sounds rather out of condition to me! I'd be looking at a bit more running in the fields! You should not over exercise a young puppy but at a year old you can definately be giving enough to develope some muscle tone.
