HI all,
just after some info
Someone has mentioned on another thread about dna sampling -
is this for identification purposes or for breeding , health checks etc ?
Who does the sampling - is it the vet , KC or a specialist ?

Hi Lel

It is generally done for identification purposes but can be used to prove who a parent is, if a particular sample came from a certain dog with regard to health checks. I think the owners can do it with a cheek swab (bucosal sample ?)

Hi, KC has a DNA sampling project up and running, done by cheek swab, which can be used fo ID - only read the bear bones of it, but as far as I remember the results from this belong to the KC. Various DNA research projects gong on to discover the causes of hereditary diseases, along with the AHT, who find reasearch teams to carry out the projects. We have taken part in one to try to find the gene responsible for HC in American Cockers - we sent in blood samples from eye tested family groups. The AHT will also undertake DNA sampling/ matching to determine parentage - again by cheek swab.
bye
Gwen
