sorry if this is an old topic, couldn't find anything relevant- I'm a tad worried about my dog- not for his health or personality, but for his safety from persecution. He is 3 years old (ish) and when I got him six months ago I was told he was a Staffy/Mastiff cross. More and more people I have met have said he is a pitbull and the more research I do on the subject, the more I am inclined to agree with them. I don't know whether to get him registered for his own safety or whether to keep quiet. He is a beautiful 8 stone dog who is just a big baby, although I am very aware of the potential of such an animal and although he is perfectly good off the lead (and won't go anywhere without me) he is always watched very carefully. As there don't seem to be any hard fast rules I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.
PS - I am aware that there SHOULDN'T be any p/bulls in this country, but have just found out his ex-owner is on his way to a long holiday at Her Majesty's pleasure, so who knows...?

I think you would be wise to have a word with
Justice for dogs. I am sure they will be able to advise you confidentially on your best course of action.

personally I would keep very quiet & keep to the original story!!! There is no "late registration" its just a one way ticket after years of battling in court!

I am no expert and I'm sure someone will put me right if I've made a mistake but in my opinion
1/ he is what would be known as a bandog / bandogge which is a cross between a molasse breed and a bull breed
2/ he is far too heavy to be a pitt.
Regards Archer.

The people who are telling you he is a pitbull are they experienced? ... its just any large dog of the "type" is too easily labelled as a Pit. 100lbs plus sounds like he is a mastiff cross, crossed with what... well you will more than likely never find out :( Just be confident that you own a large mastiff/cross breed type dog, which you do! ;)

I am- whatever he is...I only wish I could take him to shows to make people jealous of my gentle giant!! Luckily a friend of mine has two gorgeous staffys that he gets on really well with, so we take them to the beach whenever possible. I consider myself very fortunate to have such a fantastic dog and hope that people might one day realise what great animals dogs such as these are, and not the monsters they are made out to be
