Topic Other Boards / Foo / plant question (from bird seed?)
- By Kerioak Date 30.04.03 10:43 UTC
I have lots of seedlings coming up under the wild bird feeder (but they were fed on the same mix I give my lovebirds) and I would like to know what they are.

At first glance they look like convulvus, same heart shaped leaves appearing one at a time and looks as if they could be climbers. The convulvus has very smooth leaves and stem but the seedlings feel quite rough to the touch, and have not (yet) got an extensive root system.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what they could be?

Nothing to do with your plants Christine, but are yours as noisey as ours, she's really driving me up the wall at the moment with her constant screeching. Not a nice noise by any stretch of the imagination, but a nerve jangling screech all day long.

Hi Robert,

Mine are in an avairy so they can make as much noise as they want out there and the dawn and late afternoon chorus can be quite deafening at the moment but they look so pleased with themselves! It is also outside the window by my desk so I get all the pleasure of being able to watch them (when I should be working) and the noise is muted :)

Don't say I have asked a question that has beaten you all, can't have that as CD members have a reputation to uphold of being able to find out anything!!! :D

I think Sara has it!!!! :D

The photos of buckwheat look almost identical to the plants growing in the garden (expect that I seem to have more of them)

Thank you Sara - see CD'ers are not beaten by a question yet :D :D

Mar"ma*lade\, n. [F. marmelade, Pg. marmelada, fr. marm['e]lo a quince, fr. L. melimelum honey apple, Gr. ? a sweet apple, an apple grafted on a quince; ? honey + ? apple. Cf. Mellifluous, Melon.] A preserve or confection made of the pulp of fruit, as the quince, pear, apple, orange, etc., boiled with sugar, and brought to a jamlike consistence.

[French marmelade, from Portuguese marmelada, from marmelo, quince, alteration of Latin melimlum, a kind of sweet apple, from Greek melimlon : meli, honey; see melit- in Indo-European Roots + mlon, apple.]
